When it comes to revolutionizing the martial arts industry, the American Taekwondo Association is nothing less than ground-breaking. Internationally recognized as the leader in providing safe and effective martial arts training for the entire family, the ATA offers a comprehensive ranking system and exclusive tournament circuit. Counting both the U.S. and worldwide, the organization has over 1,000 independently-owned and operated licensed schools and clubs, and have registered over one million students since the ATA's inception in 1969.

It is more than just the history of the ATA that makes it so unique. It is the dedication to building character, teaching vital life skills and creating leaders that makes it stand out in the world of martial arts. From its inception to the introduction of the Songahm style in 1983, the ATA has used Taekwondo to enhance the lives of students. Becoming an ATA Licensee means that you will have a significant part in the continuing history of Songahm Taekwondo.

Basic Requirements


• At least 18 years of age
• A Certified Instructor
• First Degree Black Belt or higher
• An active member of the ATA

As an ATA Licensee, you can be granted a license to a curriculum and the use of ATA materials in a martial arts school or club. Each ATA Licensee must meet a few basic requirements to qualify for licensure.

Obtaining an ATA License will provide you with:

  • License to use the ATA brand name
  • Access to the unique Songahm curriculum
  • HQ School operations support
    Exclusivity will be provided for the growth and development of your ATA-licensed location.


Full-time operation (minimum 11 hours per week) with its own dependent facility



Part-time operation (less than 10 hours per week) that is part of an existing membership-based facility (ex. Fitness club, rec center, etc.)

"Do I need prior martial arts experience?"

Yes, prior martial arts experience is required. You must be a Certified Instructor with the ATA, a 1st Degree Black Belt or higher and be an active member of the ATA.

"Do I receive a territory with an ATA license?"

Commercial school licensees receive an exclusive territory based on population density.

"How many different ways are there to make money with an ATA license?"

Memberships and merchandise sales are the primary sources of income.

"What is the Licensee fee?"

The fees vary depending upon the type of license you purchase. The license that allows you the greatest amount of income cost $15,000 for a full-time school in a commercial facility.

"What is the term for the license?"

The license needs to be renewed every three years. Currently, there is no charge for the renewal.

"Why should I invest in an ATA license?"

The ATA is the world's largest organized martial arts licensing association with over 1,000 licensed-locations acrosss the U.S. and around the world! It has been in existence for over 40 years and utilizes a copyrighted and proven curriculum to ensure consistency from your staff that generates safe and effective results.

"What does the training involve?"

ATA Certified Instructors need to attend a week-long Basic Business & Martial Arts Training Seminar at ATA Headquarters in Little Rock, AR. The seminar is taught by high-ranking Black Belt instructors and successful ATA operators. The main focus of the seminar is how to operate a lucrative ATA-licensed school. There will also be training in traditional taekwondo as well as thorough review of the Songahm curriculum including strength and conditioning classes.

Each unique program gives you the opportunity to provide dynamic leadership training, technically-sound martial arts instruction, community outreach, fitness and health education, world-class tournaments and elite training for your staff.

Dynamic Curriculum

  • Your ATA-licensed location offers your students top-notch Taekwondo training. With our curriculum, you will have the ability to provide unique programs to both children and adults. From the nationally recognized "Kidz n' Power" Bullying Prevention Program to the youth and adult Leadership training, all programs provide students an opportunity to increase their confidence and develop life skills. Songahm Taekwondo also emphasizes personal victory and goal setting through an organized belt ranking system. Whether your students are interested in high-intensity fitness, self-defense, or just having fun, the ATA curriculum has something for everyone.

Tournament Circuit

  • Tournaments are a great opportunity for increasing skills as well as boosting confidence. Through association with the ATA, you will have exclusive acces to annually-hosted Nationals tournaments in the Fall, Spring and Summer. All tournaments offer an organized, professional and quality competition where participants are able to compete at their own level. In addition to the nationally organized tournaments, the national tournament staff is available to offer you assistance with hosting your own local and interschool tournaments. Hosting your own tournament serves as an opportunity to increase your students' confidence and knowledge through competition.

Leadership Program

  • The ATA Leadershop Program allows you to give your students leadership training in addition to their Taekwondo curriculum. It provides them a strong foundation and builds useful skills that will help enhance their educational and professional careers. The core fundamentals of discipline, honor and integrity will help provide you an opportunity to positively impact your students for the rest of their lives. Offering the Leadership program will also give you the chance to promote special V.I.P. events and elite training specifically for your Leadership participants.
