2012 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN REVIEW

The 2012 World Championship Tournament was a tremendous success!  Thousands of participants from all over the United States and several other countries converged upon Little Rock, Arkansas for an action packed week of seminars, training, testing, and competition.

The official kick off of “Worlds Week” began with a press event held at the Statehouse Convention Center Atrium on Monday.  Honored guest, Mayor of Little Rock, Mark Stodola proclaimed it ATA week in Little Rock.  Other distinguished speakers were Mrs. Sun C. Lee, Mr. Lucas Taekwon Lee, and Gretchen Hall, C.E.O of the Little Rock Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. At the conclusion of the event, the audience was treated to an impressive exhibition by Chief Master Kathy Lee’s demonstration team.

Following the press event, the ATA was showered with media attention throughout the week.  With numerous mentions, features, and interviews on local radio and television stations as well as feature stories in Arkansas’ flagship newspaper, the World Championship Tournament was the talk of the town!

A Grand Master Awards Reception was held Thursday night to honor Grand Master In Ho Lee as well as prior members of the ATA Hall of Fame.  Four new members were inducted; Senior Master Ken Church, Senior Master William Wacholz, Chief Master Kathy Lee, and Chief Master Marilyn Niblock.  Licensees of the Year were awarded and the Top Ten Licensees in the categories of Most New Members, Highest Testing Numbers, Most Black Belt Testings, Most Mid-Term Testings, and Most New Leadership Students were recognized.

Saturday, the H.U. Lee Foundation hosted a blood drive in partnership with the American Red Cross.  In the Songahm spirit of service and giving back to the community, the ATA pledged a lofty donation goal of 100 units.  Through the generosity of ATA instructors, students and staff, over 95 units of blood were collected that can potentially save 285 lives!

The 2012 World Ceremony, held at the Verizon Arena Saturday night, was entertaining as always!  In addition to the thousands in attendance, hundreds viewed the event via the live-streaming feed at ATAOnDemand.com.

The theme of the Ceremony was ATA STRONG. Attendees at the event were introduced to three ATA members who shared their story of becoming ATA STRONG through training.  The highlight of each ATA “superhero’s” story was their attempt of reaching an ambitious martial arts goal they had set for themselves prior to the World Ceremony event. The audience cheered as each one realized his or her feat on stage. The hope is that all ATA students will recognize their own strength and become more empowered to achieve great things.

The induction of new Masters is always a highlight of World Ceremonies, and this year was no exception. Two were inducted as Chief Masters, 10 as Senior Masters, and 24 as Masters.

If you weren’t able to attend the World Ceremony or would like to relive any of the special and spectacular moments, you can view it now on-demand at ATAOnDemand.com.  When you visit the site be sure to join ATA Nation in the ATA STRONG battle cry and promote your strength with an ATA STRONG t-shirt!  You can also purchase the Limited Edition ATA comic book showcased during the show which features an exclusive journal entry of Eternal Grand Master H.U. Lee.

The pay-per-view rate is $10.00.  However, this year ATA members have special access to watch the 2012 World Ceremony broadcast for FREE using the promo code found on MYATA.

As exciting and inspiring as World Championship Tournament was, the Songahm nation still has a special event to look forward to this year.  The 2012 Fall Nationals, featuring the second annual ATA Martial Arts Invitational on ESPN3, will be held in Orlando, Florida, October 16-20 at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
